LED Lenser
Ledlenser traces back to 1993, when twins Rainer and Harald Opolka founded a steel-goods trading company near Berlin, later relocating to Solingen and renaming it Zweibrüder Optoelectronics. Their breakthrough came in 2000, when they fitted a 5 mm Nichia LED into a housing — creating the perforated-ring design that defined the early lineup. Sold as the Photonenpumpe V8, that light went on to sell roughly twelve million units across eighty countries. The brand became known for its Advanced Focus System, a slide-to-focus optic combining lens and reflector. Ledlenser products have collected numerous design honors since 2001, including red dot, Good Design, and iF Design awards. Under Leatherman ownership (2011–2018), the company kept its German design and Chinese manufacturing structure before returning to independence.
